First of all yes it will damage the transfer case with no oil in it or even low oil. if it is just a seal then it is easy to replace, but if it means splitting the transfer case this is not a job for the diy, unless you have experience with transmissions or transfer cases. with a TH350 NP 205 in the event that the seal leaks it is better to have atf. I was going to change the transfer case fluids, but I'm not sure which transfer case I have. Chilton Manual says NP203 and 205 were used from 76-79. 205 is a part time and 203 is full time. 203 calls for engine oil and 205 calls for gear oil. The …I cant speak for the autos but my sm465 has a seal in the adapter to prevent its fluid from getting into it. The t-case side doesnt though. My truck is an '83 and came with the 465/205 setup. The factory manual says to use ATF in the case. I use synthetic 80-90w.It also helps to use a small amount of silicone on the yoke spines,so fluid will not seep out under the nut. Don't forget to drain the fluid first.I'd refill with synthetic afterwards.The NP203 uses 10W30 (Mobil 1 works well),and the NP205 uses 80W90.Any cheap synthetic gear oil will do. I run a combination of Lucas Oil and 85W-140 as per the instructions on the back of the Lucas oil bottle. I have found that my transfer case runs quieter, cooler and it is easier to shift.

A 75 K10 should have an NP203 chain drive t-case so it can take 10w30 (recommended more for a 203 behind a SM465 4-speed) or Dextron II or III auto trans fluid. The rear diff may need gear oil with limited slip additive, either way I think it's 80W90, same for the front but it will more than likely be an open diff which will take straight 80W90.
